Don De Witt Jr.

Don De Witt is a veteran performer. He began playing guitar at the age of 11. By the age of 13, he was performing with Smitty and the West Virginia Troubadours. During his mid-teenage years, Don was playing lead guitar for various acts performing on weekly radio and television programs, private venues, recording sessions, in nightclubs and statewide festivals. After High School, he established his base in Florida and began working dates with Nashville Artists.

Don has played guitar for such Country Greats as Red Sovine, Margo Smith, Mel Street, Johnny Carver, Boxcar Willie, Tony Booth, Ronnie Robbins, Freddy Weller, Bobby Lewis, Doyle Holly, Gordon Terry, Connie Cato, Wayne Kemp, Brian Collins, Tommy Dee, Karen Wheeler, Jimmy Peppers, Kenny Star and numerous other rising stars.

Don’s picking style, a syncopated thumb and two fingers, masterfully creates subtle and tasteful three string chord melodies and steel guitar licks, displaying his own ideas of Country, Gospel, Rock and Pop Hits. His current recording project is titled, “Guitar Picker at Heart” and will feature a collection of Classic Country Hits.

Don performs and records exclusively on Heritage Guitars with HRW Pickups and equipped with Bigsby Tailpieces. A Custom Super Eagle and a Custom H550 are his main instruments. Don believes Heritage Guitars are built with pride along with expertise from uncounted years of experience, and the unequalled quality provides a guitarist with everything expected from a superior instrument and more, without exception.

During Don DeWitt’s early career in music, he relocated to Florida and began five years of touring and performing with some of Nashville’s biggest artists. His picking style was commercial and he was well respected by other musicians and artists alike and never was without work.

In 1977, with one child and his wife expecting another, Don accepted a position as a Law Enforcement Officer with the State of Florida where he retired after 25 years of service. During these 25 years, he continued to perform for private parties, charity events, music store grand openings and in store guitar demonstrations, Christian Concerts, TV personal appearances, Wild West Events and numerous nightclubs.

Since retirement, Don continues to perform whenever possible and teaches beginner and intermediate guitar lessons at his home. He is currently working on a recording project which will feature a collection of instrumental Classic Country Hits titled, “Guitar Picker at Heart.”
